Tech upgrades to enhance student services

Olivet Nazarene University has launched a three-year technology project to bring new support and services to campus. Investing in Tomorrow’s Technology Today, or IT³, is designed to improve institutional processes and to provide enhanced services to students.

"This major initiative will bring our campus to the forefront of technology and service provided to our students, faculty and staff at Olivet," says Doug Perry, vice president for finance. "As we work through this technology plan, we will be better poised and equipped to carry out the mission of the University."

Improvements slated for Phase I of the initiative include new tools for recruitment and communications management, and a redesign of the financial aid award system. Integration to all Colleague components will include Gradebook, Oasis, Retention Alert Advancement and Reporting dashboards.

"These systems will be put in place to be self-serving for faculty, staff and students, providing an enhanced user experience," explains Dennis Seymour, director of information technology. "Improvements will not replace human contact; they will augment overall communication."

Some initiatives recently completed or currently underway include:

  • A rollout of Microsoft Windows 7 throughout the campus
  • A migration to a new e-mail system for students, faculty and staff members
  • A new look for www.olivet.edu that exemplifies the mission of the University
  • Changes in network infrastructure
