The Office of Information Technology provides general-access computing and communications facilities
for the entire University community, including a high-speed campus network linked to the Internet,
personal computing labs, central e-mail services, online computing resources, help desk, computing
services in the residences, a Dell computer store, a sophisticated digital art studio and laboratory,
web development and telecommunications services.
In addition, Information Technology operates a 4,000-line telecommunications
system, providing local, long distance, and voice messaging services
to students, faculty, and staff.
The Office of Information Technology manages the Olivet Nazarene University
Campus Network (ONUnet), which employs the latest technology to route communications
among computing systems throughout the campus. Thousands of ports
in residence rooms, classrooms, offices, and other locations around
campus support communications rates up to 100 million bits per
second. Many dial-in modems provide students and faculty with remote access to ONUnet
at speeds comparable to those offered by commercial Internet service
providers. The campus network provides direct connections to the
Internet, providing students, faculty and staff with electronic access
to people and facilities throughout the world.
Olivet Nazarene University offers wireless network access in several buildings
on campus, including Benner Library, Ludwig Center, Miller Business Center,
Reed Hall of Science, the Weber Center and many other parts of the campus.
As wireless technology matures, we expect to provide more pervasive coverage
throughout the campus. All wireless transmissions are secured
and encrypted through use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN),
which requires installation of a special client and authentication
with an ONU login name and password. See the wireless pages
for more information on the wireless network and the VPN.
Information Technology maintains a help desk at the
IT front office located in the west wing of the Benner Library. Help Desk technicians
are available to answer questions about the campus network and other related issues.
The Information Technology Help Desk is committed to helping you find a solution to
your problem.
Information Technology's training services provides training support in all areas of
computing. IT staff offer a series of free tutorials each semester. Topics range from general
"getting started" sessions for new employees to in-depth sessions on specific
application software packages.
PC Repair provides a variety of services for students who own personal computers.
PC Repair is dedicated to helping students use their Windows-based computers effectively,
provides consulting, hands-on training
for many popular applications, technical support, file recovery, text and
graphics scanning, and file translation.
The Dell Computer Store
sells computer hardware and software products, supplies, and accessories.
Information Technology's factory-authorized service department offers
repair and upgrade services. PC Repair carries equipment
from most major hardware vendors and offers hundreds of software
programs, most priced to reflect deep educational discounts.
The Campus Network (ONUnet) is available twenty-four hours a
day; schedules of other facilities vary. Direct any questions
regarding computing services to the Office of Information Technology.
