Blackboard
Blackboard is Olivet Nazarene University's official student, faculty and staff information portal. Faculty members use Blackboard to share course information and interact with students. Students and employees have access to a wide variety of resources depending on their campus role. Users can customize the layout and content to fit their needs. For a wealth of services, including discussion boards and ONU calendar information, visit http://blackboard.olivet.edu.
Color Printing
Color laser printers are available on the network in the following locations: Weber 103, Burke 408, Reed Lab, Benner Library 1st floor, and the new Communications / Art lab in Benner (2nd floor). You can use the PrintSmart system to produce color documents for $.50 per page.
Dial-Up Network Access
ONUnet DialUp access is designed for modem connection to your ONUnet e-mail and the World Wide Web. ONU has 24 telephone lines for DialUp usage and we plan to add more as the demand increases. The system we are using consists of one Cisco AS5200 access server with twenty-four modem lines. This allows 24 users to be simultaneously connected to access their e-mail and use the World Wide Web.
Currently 738 users are utilizing this service.
Dorm Network Access
Data network connections exist in all of the residence hall rooms and University owned apartments. Students must use computers equipped with Ethernet cards to access the Internet from these locations. Ethernet cards come in two speeds, 10 megabits per second (Mbps) or 100 Mbps. Both will work on the ONUNet Network.
All hardware and software necessary to run the PC must be purchased by the student.

All University students, faculty and staff have an electronic mail (email) account in addition to other Internet services. Go to webmail.olivet.edu to login. Don't forget to logout when you are finished!- User Name: Enter your GroupWise® user ID.

PrintSmart
PrintSmart is a print management program offered campus-wide that will reduce waste, save money, and improve service.
The objectives of PrintSmart are:- To improve service to students, faculty and staff service by establishing a print-on-demand service environment and expanding laser print locations.
- To conserve resources and eliminate waste by placing accountability for print costs on the users.
To print, simply insert your ONU ID card, a generic PrintSmart card or cash into a PrintSmart Access Tower and follow instructions for either copying or printing. PrintSmart service centers are available to add value to your ONU ID card.
For more information, see the PrintSmart page.
SPAM Filtering
Spam is defined as unsolicited or unwanted email. Spam filtering is an ongoing project. A spam scanning program runs on the ONUNet email system in an attempt to help cut down on excessive Spam. Spam is identified by a set of customizable rules that scan every incoming email message at ONU and tag a message's subject as Spam where necessary. You can notify Information Technology of Spam by sending an email to spamcop@olivet.edu.
Student Computer Labs
Numerous computer labs are strategically located throughout the ONU campus. Each lab features personal computers, printers, and scanners readily available for you to use. Computer Labs are located at: Benner Library, Burke Administration, Reed Hall of Science, Parrott Convocation Center, Larsen Fine Arts Center, Wisner Hall and the Weber Center. All computer labs have laser printing available, and some have copiers onsite.
Student ID Cards
Student identification cards are required for students and provide identification throughout Olivet Nazarene University's campus. They are used primarily to provide access to the library, cafeteria, and athletic activities, and to identify the student to campus departments such as Student Accounts, Public Safety, Student Affairs, and Information Technology. Your ID card will be issued your first semester at Olivet and will remain valid each following semester that you are a student.
Identification cards may be obtained during fall registration in Parrot Convocation Center. Proof of final registration is required, which means that a first payment on your account must have been received either by mail prior to registration or in person during registration. If you are finalizing registration in person during registration, a pink card will be given at the time your payment is made. This card will be needed with the required staff signatures completed in order to receive an ID. After registration is over, IDs may be obtained from the Information Technology office located in the back of Benner Library on the second floor.
To replace lost or damaged cards, come to the Information Technology office in the back of Benner Library during regular office hours to have a new card issued. For security purposes, new numbers will be encoded for the library and dining hall use. The library will be updated that night and the dining hall will be notified via e-mail of the new numbers. Student Accounts will also be notified and $10 will be charged to your account.
In the case where a card is inaccessible for a couple of days (i.e. left at home), a temporary card may be obtained from Information Technology. This card is for dining hall purposes only and will be good for only two days, counting the day it was created. There is no charge for obtaining a temporary card.
Holes, stickers, and other modifications to ID cards is strictly prohibited, due to malfunctions and damage caused to electronic card readers.
Telephone Service (Students)
Information Technology provides telephone service in every residence hall room and voicemail for every student. Providing an integrated telephone service to students offers the following benefits:- Telephone service is ready when students arrive - no delays, security deposits, wiring charges, and other general hassles with the local phone company. Students can be advised of their phone number when their rooms are assigned.
- No connection or monthly charges - students pay only for the calls they make. There are no other monthly charges normally associated with having telephone service.
- Individual accountability and convenience with Auth Codes - no frustrations splitting the telephone bill with roommates. This is especially important considering the amount of room changes and withdrawals that occur in residence halls. Students can use their same code from any student phone on campus.
- Improved communications and security - every room has a working phone line so students can call anyone on campus, directories are easily published and accurate, and security is just a phone call away.
For more information, see the telephone service page.
