12/21/2007 - Attention Kaspersky Anti-Virus Users - False Positive on Explorer.exe
If you use the Kaspersky Anti-Virus product, please pay close attention to this message.
It has been discovered that an update to the Kaspersky Anti-Virus program is detecting a false positive on an important system file for Microsoft Windows. You may receive a notice from Kaspersky stating something to the affect of "a worm was found in the file explorer.exe." The options given are to delete the file or ignore the message. DO NOT delete the file explorer.exe from your system. Click on the Ignore option then follow the instructions below to update your Kaspersky installation. Deleting explorer.exe will cause the Windows interface to stop working correctly. More information about this issue can be found at http://www.kaspersky.com/technews?id=203038717.
Installing the most recent updates from Kaspersky will prevent the false positive from occurring. To run the update process, make sure you are connected to the Internet then right-click on the red "K" icon located in the system tray. From the menu select Update and the update process will begin.
