    Technology Orientation Course

Because technology is an important part of your education at Olivet, we have designed an online Technology Orientation Course that is required of all incoming students to introduce you to the software used here. Most of the faculty will expect you to be ready to work with this technology when you start classes.

  • Blackboard is used by many professors for course information, assignments and tests.
  • Webmail is Olivet's e-mail system. All e-mail communication to you from Olivet's faculty and staff is done through Olivet e-mail. You should check your webmail account occasionally throughout the summer for e-mails sent to you about Olivet events and information.
  • Netstorage is your private storage space on Olivet's network. You may access your network files anywhere that the Internet is available.
  • OASIS is used to check grades, register for classes, check chapel attendance, and other administrative activities.

To work with this technology, you should have received an ONUnet username and password. Please keep in mind that although you will only have to remember one username, you will have three different passwords to keep track of (Network/Email, Blackboard, OASIS). It is important that you learn your login and password information and keep it secure.

You may work on the Technology Orientation course independently during the summer, complete it in a guided lab session during your orientation visit, or complete it in fall before school starts. If you want more information about the Technology Orientation course, or if you just want to try your login and password, come (with your login and password) to the 3rd floor of Weber on Friday during your summer orientation weekend. Please see the orientation schedule for specific times.

Options for completing the required Technology Orientation Course include:

  1. Complete the orientation at home before August 24 using the following steps:
    1. Open your browser (Internet Explorer is the browser recommended by Blackboard)
    2. Type: Blackboard.olivet.edu
    3. Press: Enter
    4. Login to Blackboard using your Olivet username and your Blackboard password.
      1. The first time you log into Blackboard, your password will be equal to the last four digits of your Social Security Number followed by the first three characters of your last name.
      2. To change your Blackboard password, go to the Personal Information link under Tools then click the Change Password option.
    5. Click on the Courses tab (the second tab across the top portion of the screen)
    6. Find and click on the course: Technology Orientation
    7. Follow the instructions to complete the requirements
  2. If you do not complete the course independently, you will be required to attend a lab session. You must know your username and password when you come to the lab session (call IT Help Desk if you need help with your username or password).

Lab sessions will be offered Monday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 25. During these times, people will be available to help you with questions as you work your way through the Technology Orientation Course. The assisted sessions are available by registration only with a limited number of students per class. Call (815) 939-5302 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. if you would like to register for an available session.
