Printing
Don't have your own printer? Don't worry! With the PrintSmart system you can use one of ours. Most of the computer labs on campus have printers that allow you to print papers, research notes, web pages, or whatever else you might need to print. Some of them have color printers as well. The cost for black and white is $.07 per page while color is $.50 per page.
The PrintSmart system permits a print-on-demand service environment while helping to reduce waste. Even if you send a job to print, you are not charged for the job and the printing is not actually done until you have logged into the print station and swiped your student ID card.
Email
All University students, faculty, and staff have an email account in addition to other Internet services. Go to http://webmail.olivet.edu to login. Don't forget to logout when you are finished!
User your ONUnet username as password (as described in the Account Management page) to log in. You can contact the IT Help Desk with any problems or questions.
NetStorage
NetStorage is a browser-based information management tool that gives ONU students, faculty, and staff the ability to store files online and access anywhere.
For service requirements, general information, and to login to NetStorage, please go to http://storage.olivet.edu.
Dorm Network Access
Every room comes equipped with ONUnet access through the Ethernet jacks available in the dorms and university-owned apartments. Students must use computers equipped with ethernet cards and provide their own patch cables. See the recommendations for these under the Connecting to Olivet's Network section.
Wireless Network Access
Feel free to take your computer anywhere on campus with the knowledge of free Wi-Fi access.
Web Site Content Filtering
Inappropriate web sites are not accessible on Olivet's campus.
Spam/Virus Filtering
A spam and virus scanning program runs on the ONUnet email system in an attempt to help cut down on excessive spam. Spam is identified by a set of customizable rules that scan every incoming email message. Suspected spam is tagged in the Subject line. You can notify IT of untagged spam by forwarding suspected email messages to spamcop@olivet.edu.
Cable Television
We offer over 40 popular channels to the students living on campus. These channels are selected by the Office of Student Development. You provide the TV and coaxial cable and we provide the signal. Please note that our current system sends the signal in an analog, non-HD format. You do not need any kind of converter box to deal with recent switch to digital television as we handle the conversion for you. Just make sure your TV is cable-ready.
Telephones, Long Distance, and Voice Mail
Every on-campus student at Olivet is assigned a personal telephone number (PTN) that stays with him or her throughout the entire time here at Olivet. Along with that comes a voice mailbox. If you move rooms from year to year (or even within a year), your PTN will be redirected to your new room.
Local and on-campus phone calls are free of charge. You may choose to use your Olivet phone for long-distance calling. If so, you will be billed by a company called Resicom. Click here for a FAQ document about the long-distance program. If you do not use it, you do not pay anything for it.
Online Administrative Student Information System (OASIS)
OASIS allows students to view their account balances as well as pay tuition costs, parking tickets, and other account charges online. You can also check chapel attendance, register for classes, get your mid-term and end-of-semester grades, and view transcripts. OASIS also offers students the option of giving their parents a "parent log-in" that allows parents to pay for Student Account charges online.
OASIS is available at http://oasis.olivet.edu. See the Account Management section for more information about getting logged into OASIS.
Online Learning
The majority of classes utilize Blackboard to post assignments, grades, and announcements. Several classes are also offered online through Blackboard. To familiarize yourself with Blackboard, please complete the Technology Orientation Course before the beginning your classes.
Blackboard
Blackboard is Olivet Nazarene University's official student, faculty and staff information portal. Faculty members use Blackboard to share course information and interact with students. Students and employees have access to a wide variety of resources depending on their campus role. Users can customize the layout and content to fit their needs. For a wealth of services, including discussion boards and ONU calendar information, visit http://blackboard.olivet.edu.
Student Computer labs
Numerous computer labs are strategically located throughout the ONU campus. Each lab features personal computers, printers, and scanners readily available for you to use. Computer Labs are located at: Benner Library, Burke Administration, Reed Hall of Science, Parrott Convocation Center, Larsen Fine Arts Center, Wisner Hall and the Weber Center. All computer labs have laser printing available, and some have copiers onsite.
Tiger Dollars
The Tiger Dollar Account is an optional pre-paid account available to students, faculty, and staff. Tiger Dollars virtually eliminates the need to carry cash on campus. For more information or answers to frequently asked questions, see the Tiger Dollars page.
Student Computer Repair
Computer diagnostic and repair services are available to students for a standard fee of $50. These services may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Installation of video, network, or sound card
- Installation of operating system
- Installation of memory
- Service of hard drives, power supplies, CD/DVD drives
Payment for service must be made before the computer will be accepted for work. It is recommended that you contact IT about the possible need for repair work before the computer is actually brought in for service. Only 10 student computers can be accepted at any given time and the amount of service may be limited by complexity of work needed or availability of staff.
Due to limitations in access to student housing, we are unable to make house calls to address a student computer issue. You will be required to bring the computer to us to be worked on.
Student Responsibilities
You are expected to be responsible in the use of your computer while affiliated with Olivet. This included the physical care of the computer as well as programs you use and web sites you may visit.
You should bring your system recovery discs with you to campus. In the event that your computer needs to be reimaged due to virus or spyware activity, or for any other reason, we will need those recovery discs in order to perform the work. We are not able to maintain a "library" of system discs to cover all possible makes and models of computers.
You are encouraged to purchase some type of warranty or protection plan for your computer. With the desire of many students to use their computers outside the dorm room there is an increased possibility of physical damage to the unit.
