No Server Error messages workaround 9-03-23 -
Question: I am getting an error message when launching the exam that there are ""No servers found for the institution that match the auto launch URL"
Solution: Instead of going to canvas.olivet.edu, please visit the site olivet.instructure.com to find and launch the exam. This will open up Lockdown (if installed) and launch the exam.
Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom web browser that restricts students' access to external websites, applications, and resources during online exams. Developed to work seamlessly with learning management systems (LMS), such as Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, and others, this browser is specifically designed to enhance the security of online testing environments.
Many professors on campus utilize Lockdown to prevent cheating during online exams. Students are expected to use their own equipment to take these exams, following the recommendations on our Student Computer Requirements guide on our website. Chromebooks are not recommended for use with Lockdown due to its operating system limitations.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I install Lockdown?
Respondus Lockdown is installed by launching your first quiz in the class that utilizes Lockdown. We recommend to utilize the "practice" quiz with Lockdown functionality to get this installed on your equipment. Please contact your professor if this practice quiz is not listed in Canvas course. Unfortunately, there is no other way to get this software on your computer.
Lockdown is only compatible with Windows and MacOS equipment. Chromebooks may work for some tests, but does not support the full functionality of Lockdown, so is therefore not recommended. We would recommend taking a look at our Computer Recommendations article.
I am on a Mac and it says to install Lockdown, even though I am in Lockdown. Help!
We have encountered some bugs with MacOS and Lockdown. If you receive an error message to install Lockdown while in the Lockdown Browser, simply click on the back button and enter right back into the exam. This normally solves the issue.
I am waiting for my new computer to arrive or my computer is broke and I need to take a Lockdown Quiz.
We have two dedicated computers in Benner 013 lab for Lockdown use. This is only to be used in emergencies and not consistently throughout the semester while waiting for a new computer or one to be fixed.
